OUR STORY & PHILOSOPHY
We are a small family farm located south of Westminster, MD, about an hour west of Baltimore. Our land was the nucleus of a much larger tract that has been worked for over 200 years.
The original land-grant, Upper Marlboro, was deeded in 1763 by Lord Baltimore to Robert Gilchrist. The first cabin was built before 1798. We have been working to restore our small ten acre parcel since 1983 when my husband and I moved to Westminster. Over the years we have renovated the original log cabin, stabilized the bank barn, cleared fence lines, built new fence, built a shop and on and on.
OUR ANIMALS AND PRODUCTS
Hill Farm is home to Norwegian Fjord Ponies, Leicestershire Longwool sheep, various birds, dogs, cats, and chickens.
Products of the farm include yarn, fleece, roving, sheep skins, lambs, and handwoven blankets. Raising lambs, foals, puppies, chicks, ducks, and kittens are all wonderful experiences to be a part of. We find this lifestyle, not necessarily easy but always rewarding. I can’t think of a better place to raise a child. Being in touch with the land, the animals, and the seasons give life a true sense of purpose.
